The ultimate off-road Discovery will be the first vehicle hand-assembled at the Special Vehicle Operations Technical Center.Confirming rumors, Land Rover has revealed the Discovery SVX for buyers who desire a higher level of off-road capabilities.
The first modern Land Rover to wear the SVX badge, the new Discovery variant will be sold alongside the Special Vehicle Operations' track-focused Range Rover Sport SVR and ultimate luxury Range Rover SVAutobiography.
Engineers have lifted the Discovery suspension and added hydraulic active roll control (H-ARC) for increased wheel articulation and reduced body roll.
Raising the SVX has provided more room for larger diameter Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires, while contributing to improved departure and breakover angles.
Jaguar Land Rover's 5.0-liter supercharged V8 provides 518 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque. An active center and electronic rear locking differentials help deliver the power to the ground, complementing specially tuned software modes for the Discovery's eight-speed gearbox and dual-ratio transfer case.
The package is visually distinguished with a few rugged styling cues, apparently taking inspiration from iconic Discovery off-road vehicles used in events such as the Camel Trophy and G4 Challenge.
